Diamond Hem Trousers – Printed Pattern | Style Falcon

$22.00 USD

Cover all the angles with this gem of a slim-fitting stretch trouser sewing pattern. Ideal for stretch ponte, heavy stretch jersey, or other fabrics with at least 50% stretch.

View A features a designer-look diamond-shaped inset at the hem. Try topstitching, embroidery or color-blocking to make it pop.

View B features a classic split hem and minimal topstitching for a dressier look.

The comfortable high waist coordinates with a variety of tops. Angled front pockets hold your stuff in style. Choose your own adventure at the waist - a hidden elastic channel provides comfort without that "elastic waist" look. Or level up your sewing skills with an invisible zipper.

This sewing pattern comes with a free step-by-step video tutorial on the Style Falcon YouTube channel. All measurements and instructions are provided in Imperial and metric units.

The pattern package includes all 11 sizes of the pattern, printed in black ink on one folded sheet of sturdy paper, not tissue. The package also includes a black-and-white stapled paper instruction booklet and a full-color paper quick start guide with fashion illustrations, technical drawings, size charts and a list of materials to sew the pattern. The size charts list body measurements and finished pattern measurements. The quick start guide also provides a description of the pattern and an explanation of Style Falcon's cut and fit.

Designed by Style Falcon, an independent American pattern company founded by home sewist Diane Scarponi in New Haven, Connecticut. Every Style Falcon pattern is drafted for a mature figure, with more room at the tummy and hip and proportions for a height of 5'4" (1.6 m). Pattern lines and markings are bold and easy to read, and ⅝ in (1.5 cm) seam allowances and hems are included.

📏 Sizing

11 sizes, A–K, all included in the envelope
Waist: 33–47 in (84–119.5 cm)
Hips: 40–54 in (101.5–137 cm)
Choose your size by waist and hip measurement. The trousers are very close-fitting through the waist, hip and thigh, with extra room in the belly compared with other stretch trousers, and about 6 in (15 cm) of negative ease at the waist and hip. They sit about 1 in (2.5 cm) above the natural waist, and the inseam is 27 in (68.5 cm) for all sizes. Finished waist is 27–41 in (68.5–104 cm) and finished hips 34–48 in (86.5–122 cm). If you are unsure about your fabric's stretch, size up; the instructions include detailed fit guidance.

🪡 Fabric

Stretch knits such as ponte, double knit and heavy jersey, or high-stretch wovens such as stretch denim with a high percentage of elastane. The fabric needs four-way stretch, with at least 50% stretch in one direction (a 4 in / 10 cm square should stretch to at least 6 in / 15 cm) and a little stretch in the other. 60 in (154 cm) wide fabric is recommended.
View A (diamond hem): sizes A–F 1¾ yd (1.6 m); sizes G–K 2 yd (1.8 m).
View B (split hem): sizes A–F 1½ yd (1.4 m); sizes G–K 2 yd (1.8 m).

🔘 Notions

Matching thread; a stretch or ballpoint machine needle; about 1 yd (1 m) of knit interfacing for the waistband facings and zipper area; a little adhesive tape to assemble one or two large pattern pieces.
Waist (choose one): a 7 in (18 cm) invisible zipper, suggested if your hips are 6 in (15 cm) or more larger than your waist; or ⅜ in (1 cm) elastic as long as your waist minus 2 in (5 cm), suggested if the difference is less than 6 in (15 cm); or neither, if the high waist is secure enough on its own.
Optional: ¾ yd (0.75 m) of lightweight stretch woven or jersey for the pocket and hem facings if your fabric is bulky; 1 yd (1 m) of interfacing for sturdier hem facings if your fabric is light; contrasting topstitching thread, appliqué, trims or embroidery for the View A diamond.
