From independent French studio My Dress Made, this is a warm ivory rather than a cold white — the difference matters. A stark optical white flattens skin; this one has enough softness in it to sit kindly against most complexions, and it reads as considered rather than clinical.

The crepe weave gives it a fine pebbled grain you can see close up and feel under the hand. That texture is what keeps a solid interesting: it catches light unevenly, so the fabric shows its own folds instead of going flat. At 140 g/m² it has more body than most viscose crepes — enough to hold a gathered waist or a tie — while still falling in fluid, natural lines.

It is slightly transparent, which is worth planning around rather than being surprised by. A floaty blouse, a gathered top or a tie-back camisole is perfectly fine unlined. On a fitted bodice, a straight skirt or anything cut close, you will want a lining — My Dress Made recommend one for the skirt of a dress.

This is a Limited Edition colourway — produced in a single small run and never reprinted once sold out. When this fabric is gone, it is gone for good.

Pre-wash before cutting — viscose moves on the first wash. Use a fine universal or microtex needle (70/10–80/12) with a shorter stitch length, and cut single-layer with pattern weights; crepe shifts under the shears. Because it is semi-sheer, plan your inside finishes as carefully as your outside ones — French seams or bias binding, and avoid dark interfacing or facings that will shadow through. If you are lining a fitted piece, a lightweight ivory viscose or cupro will move with the fabric rather than fighting it. Pale fabric shows marking, so test any chalk or pen on a scrap first.

Is it see-through?

This is a semi-sheer viscose crepe, so whether you'll want a lining depends on your garment: a slim-fitting bodice, a straight skirt or a fitted blouse will need one, while a flowy top, a gathered dress or anything with volume is usually fine unlined. My Dress Made specifically recommend lining the skirt of a dress.

What can I sew with this fabric?

Blouses, shirts, camisoles and tie-back tops, wrap and gathered dresses, and wide-leg trousers. It is also the solid that anchors a printed fabric — pair it with a busy print for a top-and-bottom outfit that doesn't compete with itself.

How much fabric do I need?

Fabric is sold by the half yard, cut in one continuous piece. A fitted top typically takes 2–3 half-yard units, a blouse or shirt 3–4, wide-leg trousers 5–6, and a midi dress 5–6 — order 4 units for 2 continuous yards. Add extra if you are lining it from the same fabric.

Will it shrink?

Yes — expect some. Viscose typically moves around 5% on the first wash, enough to change a fit noticeably. Pre-wash before cutting and wash it the way you intend to wash the finished garment.

Will it stay white?

Treat it like any pale garment: wash it separately or with like colours, avoid overloading the machine, and skip the tumble dryer entirely — heat is what yellows viscose over time. Line drying out of direct sun is kindest to it.

A fine universal or microtex needle (70/10–80/12) with all-purpose polyester thread and a slightly shorter stitch length; test on a scrap first.
