The Positive Space Jacket is THE answer to “I have nothing to wear” for a fancy evening out or a big day at the office.

The jacket's neckline, raglan sleeve and front shaping frame the face beautifully. The statement collar is a canvas for quilting or embroidery fabulousness. Bracelet-length sleeves show off a watch or bangle. A special button makes the perfect closure. Plus pockets? Of course!

The Positive Space Jacket works best with woven fabrics that have a stiffer or crisper hand, such as brocades, damasks and satins, silk dupioni or shantung. It also works well with lighter upholstery fabrics or wool suitings with a firm hand.

For warm-weather wear, choose the collarless, unlined version. For light outerwear or for a dressier project, try the lined collared version. Make the collar out of the same fabric or go lighter or heavier. Or make the jacket out of a plain fabric and splurge for a collar out of pretty but expensive fabric - the collar only takes half a yard or meter.

The pattern package includes all 11 sizes of the pattern, printed in black ink on two folded sheets of sturdy paper, not tissue. The package also includes a black-and-white stapled paper instruction booklet and a full-color paper quick start guide with fashion illustrations, technical drawings, size charts and a list of materials to sew the pattern. The size charts list body measurements and finished pattern measurements. The quick start guide also provides a description of the pattern and an explanation of Style Falcon's cut and fit. All measurements and instructions are provided in Imperial and metric units.

Designed by Style Falcon, an independent American pattern company founded by home sewist Diane Scarponi in New Haven, Connecticut. Every Style Falcon pattern is drafted for a mature figure: little bust-to-waist definition, lower bust points and a C cup (the average for women 55 and over in the US), more room at the tummy, hip and bicep, and a center-back seam with rounded-back and forward-shoulder shaping. Pattern lines and markings are bold and easy to read, and ⅝ in (1.5 cm) seam allowances and hems are included.

📏 Sizing

11 sizes, A–K, all included in the envelope
Bust: 34–48 in (86.5–122 cm)
Waist: 33–47 in (84–119.5 cm)
Hips: 40–54 in (101.5–137 cm)
Proportioned for a height of 5'4" (1.6 m). Choose your size by bust measurement. The jacket is fitted at the shoulder and loose at the bust, waist and hip; the sleeves finish at bracelet length, just above the wrist, and the hem hits the low hip. It is designed to wear over a light dress or top — size up to wear it over a heavy dress or top, or if you sew it in heavier fabrics such as coatings or tapestries. Finished back length is 30¾–31¼ in (78–79.5 cm). Full size and finished-measurement charts are in the quick start guide.

🧵 Skill Level

Intermediate to advanced, as rated by Style Falcon.

🪡 Fabric

Wovens with a stiffer or crisper hand: brocade, damask, satin, silk dupioni or shantung, lighter upholstery fabrics, or wool suiting with a firm hand. Add ¼ yd (0.25 m) for napped or one-way designs. The collar takes only ½ yd (0.5 m), so it is a good place for a quilted, embroidered or splurge fabric.
View A (unlined): sizes A–F 3 yd of 42" or 2¼ yd of 60" wide fabric (2.7 m of 107 cm or 2.1 m of 153 cm); sizes G–K 3¼ yd of 42" or 2½ yd of 60" (2.9 m or 2.3 m).
View B (lined, with quilted collar): the same fabric as View A, plus lining: sizes A–F 2 yd of 42" or 1½ yd of 60" (1.9 m of 107 cm or 1.3 m of 153 cm); sizes G–K 2¼ yd of 42" or 2 yd of 60" (2.1 m or 1.8 m).

🔘 Notions

Matching thread; one big decorative button, at least 1½ in (4 cm); interfacing for the facings, pocket openings and collar: 1¼ yd (1.25 m) for the facings and pocket openings plus 1 yd (1 m) for the collar.
View A: optional seam binding.
View B: interfacing and/or ¼ yd (0.25 m) of batting for the quilted collar.
