Straight A's Skirt – Printed Pattern | Style Falcon
Look smart in this six-paneled A-line skirt. Ponte, scuba, double knit or other stable knits or stretch woven fabrics sew up easily and drape just enough to flatter curves.
Hidden elastic at the waist provides comfort without that “elastic waist” look.
Are there pockets? You know it! Two pocket options offer casual or more dressy styles.
And there are two lengths - perfect for both above-the-knee and below-the-knee dressing.
The Straight A's Skirt is perfect for stable knits such as ponte, scuba and double knit. It also works well with stretch woven fabrics. See the materials chart for everything you need to make this skirt.
View A is hemmed above the knee and has side seam pockets for a quick sew.
View B is hemmed below the knee and has front inseam pockets with buttons to add polish to your look.

Designed by Style Falcon, an independent American pattern company founded by home sewist Diane Scarponi in New Haven, Connecticut. Every Style Falcon pattern is drafted for a mature figure, with more room at the tummy and hip and proportions for a height of 5'4" (1.6 m). Pattern lines and markings are bold and easy to read, and ⅝ in (1.5 cm) seam allowances and hems are included.
📏 Sizing
11 sizes, A–K, all included in the envelope
Waist: 33–47 in (84–119.5 cm)
Hips: 40–54 in (101.5–137 cm)
Choose your size by waist and hip measurement. For an accurate hip measurement, hold a yardstick against your belly, parallel to your body, and measure around it. The skirt sits at the natural waist, with a little negative ease at the waist for a snug fit; it is close-fitting at the hip and looser at the thigh. Finished waist is 32½–46 in (83–117 cm) and finished hips 39–53 in (99–135 cm). Finished length is 22 in (56 cm) for View A and 25 in (63.5 cm) for View B in every size.

🪡 Fabric
Heavier stable knits such as ponte, scuba and double knit, or heavier stretch wovens such as stretch denim, twill or suiting (size up if your woven stretches less than a knit). Suitable fabrics are usually 52–68 in (132–173 cm) wide. Some prints and napped fabrics need more.
View A (above the knee): sizes A–F 1⅝ yd of 54" or 1¼ yd of 68" wide fabric (1.4 m of 132 cm or 1.2 m of 173 cm); sizes G–K 2 yd or 1½ yd (1.8 m or 1.4 m).
View B (below the knee): sizes A–F 1¾ yd of 54" or 1⅜ yd of 68" (1.6 m of 132 cm or 1.3 m of 173 cm); sizes G–K 2¼ yd or 1⅜ yd (2 m or 1.6 m).
🔘 Notions
Matching thread; elastic as long as your waist measurement minus 1–2 in (2.5–5 cm), depending on how snug you like it: ¼ in (6.5 mm) elastic for a lighter hold or 1 in (2.5 cm) for a sturdier one.
View A: about ⅓ yd (0.3 m) of lightweight fabric for the pocket linings.
View B: about ¼ yd (0.25 m) of lightweight fabric for the pocket linings; two ¾ in (19 mm) shank buttons; a strip of fusible knit interfacing about 14 in × ⅜ in (35 × 1 cm) for the pockets and buttonholes.
