Brushstroke Smoke painterly print cotton lawn by Lady McElroy — fabric gathered to show drape

Cotton Lawn Fabric – Brushstroke Smoke | Lady McElroy

$11.95 USD

Designed by British textile house Lady McElroy, this cotton lawn fabric features the Brushstroke print in soft smoke tones with abstract, painterly markings. The fine Marlie Care lawn weave creates a smooth, lightweight surface with excellent breathability, making it well suited for garment sewing.

The Smoke colorway reads as watercolor patches of sage, ochre, dusty plum and grey-blue — quieter than the vivid Original Brushstroke, and easy to pair with solids already in your wardrobe. It keeps a soft hand and gentle drape while retaining enough structure for clean seams and refined details.

❓ Frequently Asked Questions

What can I sew with the Brushstroke Smoke cotton lawn?

Blouses, dresses, skirts, and lightweight tops — plus cover-ups, scarves, and accessories.

How much fabric do I need?

Most blouses take 1.5–2 yards (3–4 half-yard units) and most dresses 2.5–3.5 yards (5–7 units). At 55" wide, this fabric is wider than many quilting cottons, so you may need less than your pattern envelope suggests.

Will it shrink?

Fine cotton lawn typically shrinks 2–3% on the first wash. Prewash before cutting.

Is it see-through?

No — it is opaque in normal wear, so no lining is needed.

What needle and thread should I use?

A fine 70/10 universal or Microtex needle with all-purpose polyester thread. Press gently for crisp seams.

Is it really limited edition?

Yes — this is a small-batch limited run and will not be reprinted once sold out. We stock it here in the US, so there is no import shipping or customs from the UK.

Are you an authorized Lady McElroy stockist?

Yes — Sew Fabric Obsessed is an authorized Lady McElroy “Go Greener” stockist, and every cut ships from our US studio.
